Investment Advisor
Fidelity Management & Research is the investment advisor to the Fidelity family of funds. With over 400 analysts around the globe it boasts of one of the deepest research teams in the industry. In recent years, their fixed-income group has done exceptionally well, with Fidelity's muni bond funds outperforming 86% of their peers and their taxable bond funds (where Strategic Income resides) outperforming 65% of their peers.

Portfolio Manager
Fidelity veteran Bill Eigen has been managing this fund since 2001. Bill joined Fidelity in 1994 as a director in the Fixed Income and Asset Allocation Fund Analysis Group. He became the director and strategist for Fidelity’s Asset Allocation Fund Group in 1997. In addition to Strategic Income, Bill also manages Fidelity's Four-In-One Index and Strategic Dividend & Income. As the lead manager, Bill is responsible for making the asset allocation decisions among the four sectors that comprise the fund's investing universe.

Bill is assisted by four other Fidelity managers, one for each of those sectors, who handle the individual security selection as follows:

  • George Fischer manages the U.S. Treasury component. George has recently been in the news because he will assume an even larger role at Fidelity in response to recent manager changes in the fixed income group. In addition to his supporting role here in Strategic Income, George (with Fidelity since 1989) now also manages four other Fidelity funds: Government Income; Spartan Government Income; Intermediate Government Income; and Mortgage Securities.

  • Jon Kelly manages the Emerging Markets component. In the past, Jon also has had a role in managing Fidelity's Advisor Emerging Markets Income and New Markets Income funds.

  • Mark Notkin manages the fund’s high-yield component. We know Mark well as the Manager of Fidelity's high-yield funds, Capital and Income and High Income.

  • Andy Weir manages the established (developed) foreign market debt component.
